Norine E. Lyons, M.A., LPC
Contract Therapist

Norine LyonsNorine Lyons is a licensed professional counselor who works with people at life's crossroads -- in relationships, at work, and in finding their way through old hurts and new challenges.

She is experienced in helping young adults in the "launch phase" of life, and older adults who wish to re-examine priorities and change direction. She also sees children and adolescents, with special interest in single parent families, blended families, and parents who have parted ways but still want to work together to raise their children.

Her work with couples is informed by Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which focuses on friendship and intimacy as the foundation for the relationship. Other postgraduate training includes child and adolescent psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and the treatment of trauma, addictions, depression and anxiety.

Her professional experience includes work in private practice, in community mental health agencies that assist individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and addictions, as well as a school for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems.

In all of her work, Norine enjoys helping people build on the strengths and resources they already have in order to find a path to healing and balance.

She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, the International Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the Association for Play Therapy. She is licensed as a professional counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia, and also holds certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors.

Norine sees clients both at the practice office, and a few blocks down the street at 1202 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 223145
